MARK BEANE

My name is Mark, and I've had a passion for photography since about the age of 10. In those early days, I enjoyed experimenting with stop-motion techniques. I made several short films, mostly involving my action figures!   Then shooting black and white film on my dad's old Minolta as a teenager.

 

I feel lucky to have studied on film in college, just prior to the digital format becoming the new standard. I believe that all of those hours spent in the darkroom developing film and prints helped make me a better photographer.

 

I worked as the primary staff photographer for Loyola University Chicago for about nine years. I met and photographed so many amazing people during that time, like Barack Obama when he was a senator, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, just to name a few. But the highlight in my time there had to be the Dalai Lama visit. It was special because I was one of only two photographers permitted to cover the event. The other photographer was from the Tibetan American community. 

 

Today, I continue to specialize in higher education marketing, special events, portraiture, and editorial photography. I will be expanding my services to include weddings and families, and will be posting more information about pricing and special promotions for that soon. I work in the Chicago area and suburbs, and live in Oak Park with my wife Amy, daughter Alma, and dog Bowie. We live in a wonderful community that really embraces family life, and we are happy to call home.

 

I'd have to say that capturing real life moments candidly is one of my favorite parts of my job, and is something I feel I have become adept at doing. I think my clients would say that besides delivering great photography, one of the best parts about working with me is my friendly and outgoing personality.
